Former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah has taken steps to shield her assets from further confiscation by filing a fresh injunction application against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The move comes in the midst of an ongoing criminal case against Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kufuor, pertaining to corruption charges.
Dapaah’s legal team, in the newly filed application, is fervently seeking an interlocutory injunction to bar the OSP from taking any actions that could adversely impact or prejudice Dapaah’s rights. These rights, as outlined in the legal documentation, include the right to a fair trial, protection from property deprivation, and the right to administrative justice.
This legal maneuver mirrors a prior application submitted on October 10 by Dapaah, aiming to impede the OSP’s investigation and prosecution. The earlier suit for a judicial review contested the fairness and legitimacy of the seizure and subsequent freezing of bank accounts on September 5, 2023.
In her recent legal move, Dapaah emphasizes the necessity of an injunction to safeguard her property and personal rights. She contends that damages would be inadequate to compensate for any potential violation of her rights if the application is not granted.
“I am advised by Counsel that I have property and personal rights that need to be protected by this Honourable Court and that an order of injunction should be granted against the Respondent to prohibit and restrain him from further violating my rights until the determination of this matter. “I am advised by Counsel that damages will be inadequate to compensate me if this application for an injunction is not granted and judgment is subsequently entered in the Applicant’s favour,” states Dapaah in her application.
The legal tussle between Cecilia Dapaah and the Special Prosecutor’s Office continues to unfold, with both parties entangled in a complex web of accusations and legal maneuvers.
