Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Sam Nujoma, the Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and a revered figure in Africa’s liberation struggle.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, February 9, 2025, Akufo-Addo described Nujoma as a hero whose leadership was instrumental in securing Namibia’s independence and shaping its democratic foundation.
“The late First President of Namibia’s life would continue to be celebrated for his heroic leadership of the people of Namibia not only in the fight for independence from colonial rule, but in laying the foundation for a secure, prosperous and democratic nation,” he wrote.
He extended his condolences to Namibia’s President, Nangolo Mbumba, the people of Namibia, Nujoma’s family, and the leadership of the SWAPO party.
Dr. Samuel Shafiishuna Daniel Nujoma, a key figure in Namibia’s struggle against colonial rule, served as the country’s first president from 1990 to 2005. His leadership in the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) played a crucial role in the country’s independence from South African rule.
