Former two-term Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Gifty Klenam, has switched allegiance from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Klenam, who represented her constituency in the Fourth and Fifth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic and later served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Centre (GEPC) under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, announced her defection on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
At a press conference, Klenam cited ideological alignment and confidence in the NDC’s policy direction as key reasons for her decision. She also expressed strong support for the party’s 2024 manifesto, describing it as the most promising roadmap for Ghana’s future.
She argued that after carefully analyzing the NDC’s policies, she asserted that President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership offers the best path toward national progress and prosperity. She officially joined the NDC after receiving her membership card in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region, marking a significant shift in her political career.
She pledged to work closely with the NDC’s grassroots, focusing on community empowerment and creating opportunities to curb the rising trend of Ghanaian youth migrating in search of better prospects abroad.
