Former GPL top scorer Abednego Tetteh explains decision to return to Bibiani Gold Stars

Former Bibiani Gold Stars forward Abednego Tetteh has revealed the twists and turns of his recent football journey, marking a sensational return to his former club after a brief stint in the Faroe Islands.

In an exclusive interview on Happy FM, he stated “After the end of the league season in Ghana, I was supposed to leave in August, but I had some problems with my visa,” Tetteh explained. “Instead of getting it in earlier, I got it in October when it was left with three matches for my new club FC Hoyvik, which is in the Faroe Islands’ second tier to play and if they lost one they would be relegated”.

Tetteh’s impact was immediate, contributing to two wins and a draw in crucial matches, securing FC Hoyvik’s safety from relegation. However, the striker disclosed his decision to leave, citing the prolonged off season and his reluctance to remain idle until the league resumes in March.

“The reason I decided not to continue there was, for now, the league season has ended and would resume mid- March and I made the club understand that I cannot Stay idle from now till March and according to the club, you’d have to take care of yourself, etc so the team agreed that I can get a new team for the 4months till the league resumes”.

Despite securing a temporary deal with a Libyan team, Tetteh received an unexpected call from Bibiani Gold Stars, including an invitation from the paramount Chief and elders. “They are still insisting they need me back at the club,” Tetteh shared, hinting at ongoing discussions.

This homecoming follows Tetteh’s departure from Bibiani Gold Stars at the end of the previous Ghana Premier League season, where he was the Golden Boot winner. His decision to leave was fueled by perceived disrespect from the Ghana Football Association, culminating in a GHC5,000 voucher as his prize for being the league’s top scorer.

Bibiani Gold Stars on the other hand are without a head coach as their gaffer, Micheal Osei has been asked to go on an indefinite leave.

They are currently 16th with 12 points after match week 12.
