Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has firmly stated that the government cannot relocate victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage to the Segleme Housing project.
Responding to Member of Parliament for North Tongue constituency in the Volta Region about the lack of accommodation for these victims at Segleme, he clarified that the project is currently uninhabitable due to the absence of essential utilities such as water and electricity.
Moreover, even if these utilities were available, relocating the victims to Segleme would constitute resettlement, requiring thorough studies of affected communities, their social structures, and cultural practices.
Additionally, he mentioned that it would disrupt the education of children.
