Fire guts three auto parts shops and cold store in Accra

A fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, September 11, gutting three auto parts shops and a cold store along the Kamara-Mamprobi stretch in Accra.

The fire, believed to have been caused by a faulty electrical system in one of the shops, quickly spread to neighboring shops, resulting in significant losses.

Eyewitnesses reported noticing light sparks from a container the night before the fire.

Joseph Acquah, a witness whose mother’s container was affected, recounted that they had alerted the container’s owner about the sparks and recommended immediate action, but permission was not granted to address the issue. Sadly, by morning, the fire had spread and destroyed several shops.

“We noticed sparks coming from a container yesterday and asked the owner to let us handle it, but they refused. When it started raining in the evening, we lost track of it, and around 3:30 to 4 a.m., the fire slowly began,” he said.

He added that the fire service was called and successfully extinguished the flames.
