A large fire broke out at the Quantum Gas, gas booster station near the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) in the early hours of Friday. The cause of the inferno remains a mystery, as authorities scramble to contain the blaze and determine its origins.
The Quantum Gas pipeline in question serves as a crucial conduit for the transportation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to the Tema Port, playing an essential role in the energy supply chain of the region.
Preliminary reports suggest that the incident occurred while the company was in the process of transferring gas from vessels docked at the port to the booster station, from where it is further distributed to various terminals in the vicinity.
Upon receiving news of the emergency, firefighting teams swiftly arrived at the scene, battling the fierce flames in a bid to bring the situation under control. Fortunately, as of the latest updates, managers of the Tema Oil Refinery have reported no significant damage to their infrastructure.
Matilda Adjoa Frempah, the Public Relations Officer for the Tema Oil Refinery, provided reassurance to the public during an interview with Happyghana.com. She stated, “The situation is under control. There has not been any damage recorded yet. We are waiting for the investigation to commence and be completed for us to know if there’s been any potential damage to the line.”
She further emphasized that the fire’s occurrence would not disrupt operations at TOR, ensuring that “this is not going to impact what is supposed to go to the market. The product will go out as usual.”
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of gas pipelines and the energy infrastructure in the region. Authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, while efforts to extinguish the blaze and prevent any further escalation continue.
Local residents and businesses are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with emergency responders to ensure the swift resolution of this critical situation.
