File for Application for No Case against remanded Democracy Hub protesters - Alan to AG

Leader of Alliance for Revolutionary Change and the Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has charged the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to as a matter of expediency file for no case in the matter involving the 39 remanded Democracy Hub protesters.

Mr. Kyerematen says the continuous incarceration of the remanded protesters, who were just exercising their democratic rights, is both unconstitutional and undemocratic.

According to Mr. Kyerematen, the actions by the state flies foul in the face of proper criminal proceedings stating that the remanded protesters should be treated with dignity. He argued that news going rife of the incarcerated protesters being denied access to proper legal representation and infringement on their personal rights exposes the high handedness of the NPP government.

The circumstances currently playing out with the fight against illegal small scale mining, Mr. Kyerematen opines, has evidently exposed the incompetence of both the NPP and the NDC in the sustainable management and preservation of the country’s natural resources.

None of the two major political parties, he says, has exhibited the commitment, readiness and the political will to deal with illegal small scale mining.

“Alliance for Revolutionary Change is the only political entity that has shown commitment to dealing with illegal small scale mining”, Mr. Kyerematen declared.

The visible failure, he reiterates, necessitated the Democracy Hub’s demonstration which ended with some of the protesters being arrested, arraigned before court and remanded into police custody for two weeks.

Despite commending the police for their professional conduct, Mr. Kyerematen subtly berated them for the charges slapped on the remanded protesters.

According to Mr. Kyerematen, it will only be appropriate for the Attorney General to, as a matter of urgency, file for a nolle prosequi in the case and set free the protesters who were only looking out for the good of the Republic of Ghana.
