Fighting Galamsey requires a collective effort, says Seth Kwame Acheampong

Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong says, he is preparing a taskforce to arrest illegal miners within the Eastern Region after a horrifying experience.

Recalling his experience with illegal miners, he says he led a taskforce of about 30 men to stop and arrest these illegal miners, but were surprised to meet over a hundred and four (104) armed men. This forced his team to abandone the operation to fully prepare.

According to him, these illegal miners, carry guns for self-protection, which poses a serious national security threat .

He emphasized the worrying nature of illegal mining activities and the effect water bodies.

His recall follows calls by the Ghana Water Company and the Environmental Protection Agency to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the country.
