2025 AFCON qualifiers: Niger host Black Stars in Morocco

In the latest FIFA World Rankings, Ghana’s Black Stars have experienced a notable decline due to their disappointing performances during the recent September international break.

In their first two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Ghana faced Angola and Niger.

The team suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and was held to a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. As a result, Ghana currently sits in third place in Group F.

Following the release of the rankings, Ghana has fallen from 64th to 70th globally. Several countries, including Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Cape Verde, and Burkina Faso, have surpassed Ghana in the standings.

The Black Stars have also slipped two positions in the continental rankings, now ranked 14th, with Burkina Faso and Cape Verde moving ahead.

In the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings, Morocco has taken the top spot, followed by Senegal while Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, and Tunisia round up the top five.

The Black Stars will regroup in October for their third and fourth matches against Sudan in the qualifiers.
