
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to African football, announcing record-breaking participation for the continent at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and other global tournaments.
Speaking at the CAF 14th Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Infantino revealed that Africa will have 9 or even 10 teams at the next World Cup—double the previous allocation.
He also highlighted increased African representation at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with slots expanding from three to four or even six teams, alongside greater participation in youth tournaments.
These expansions reflect FIFA’s recognition of Africa’s footballing potential, providing more opportunities for African nations to shine on the world stage.
With continuous investment in talent development and infrastructure, Africa is set to play a bigger role in global football, with increased visibility and respect at the highest level
