Fatawu Hamidu, the promising left-back of both Medeama SC has shed light on the remarkable journey that led Medeama SC to secure a coveted spot in the CAF Champions League group stage.
The 24-year-old player, who had previously been a consistent performer for Medeama SC, in an enlightening conversation with Happy FM’s Ohene Bampoe Brenya, recounted the team’s challenging journey in the previous season. He highlighted the initial struggles in the first round, saying, “In the first round of last season, the team (Medeama) struggled to grind the results expected until certain changes were done during the second half of the league season which saw the inclusion of myself and other players.”
Hamidu attributed the remarkable turnaround and Medeama’s victory in the Ghana Premier League title to the team’s unique determination. He emphasized, “What makes this team special is our determination, we’re determined to punch above our weight in Africa, make it to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, and we did it. I would credit the team’s hard work and resilience, which I had paid off.”
During the previous season, Fatawu Hamidu made 19 appearances in the Ghanaian Premier League and managed to score two goals. His noteworthy contributions extended beyond domestic matches. Hamidu played a crucial role when Medeama faced Nigeria’s Remo Stars SC during the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers. Medeama’s advancement to the next round was secured through a thrilling post-match penalty shootout.
With a well-deserved call-up to the Black Stars, Fatawu Hamidu’s football career reached a significant milestone.
He is part of the Black Stars’ squad for their upcoming friendlies against the United States and Mexico.
