The family of the late Madam Gertrude Essie Quashigah has expressed disappointment over recent allegations made by former Minister for Gender, Sarah Adwoa Safo, concerning the management of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) during Mrs. Quashigah’s tenure as National Coordinator.
A press statement signed by Isaac Aidoo, Esq., on behalf of the family, described the claims as unfounded and unfortunate, stating that Madam Quashigah carried out her duties with integrity, dedication, and selflessness from 2019 until her passing in 2023.
According to the family, under her leadership, the GSFP expanded significantly, improving the nutrition and welfare of thousands of Ghanaian schoolchildren.
The family lamented that the late Mrs. Quashigah is not alive to defend herself and criticized the timing of the accusations, saying they have caused deep distress to her children and those who respected her contributions to national development.
The statement also highlighted the historical ties between the late Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), and Adwoa Safo’s father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, describing the situation as particularly disheartening given the shared bonds of public service and mutual respect between the two families.
They have called on Adwoa Safo to retract her statement and issue an unqualified apology, urging her to consider the pain her remarks have caused. Additionally, they appealed to Ghanaians to continue honoring the legacy of Madam Quashigah, who devoted her life to the betterment of Ghanaian children and national service.
