President of the Technical University Teachers Association (TUTAG), Dr. Solomon Keelson has said that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) violated the ruling of the National Labour Commission (NLC) to ensure that members of the association receive allowances due them.
Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the ‘Happy Morning Show’ (HMS) on Happy FM he said: ‘’the FWSC failed to comply with the ruling by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to ensure that we receive our allowances due us from December 2019, January 2020 and February 2020.
Some members have received some amounts of money, we do not know what money that is because allowances were paid with no official communication to that effect, but even if we take the highest amount and make calculations it is still not up to the Labour commission ruling.’’
According to Dr. Keelson, non-office holders of TUTAG are still receiving the GHS 15.00 rent allowance.
‘’Some lecturers and senior lecturers have not received anything at all their rent allowance is still GHS 15.00. What stops the Fair Wages Commission from getting a comprehensive list from the Vice Chancellors of the various technical universities of lecturer’s living in their own houses, those living in university bungalows and those living in rented apartments. They cannot trust us to do that why should we trust them’’ he queried.
It can be recalled that the FWSC reviewed allowances of public university lecturers and due to the conversion of polytechnics to technical universities, TUTAG members are also eligible per National Labour Commission’s October 28, 2019 ruling.
Technical University Teachers are on an indefinite strike action taking effect today which according to reports will affect teaching, invigilation, and marking of scripts in technical universities.
