Fair Wages and Salaries Commission urges Teacher unions to ‘Keep faith with govt’

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has urged the three striking teacher unions to uphold their confidence in government.

The Commission has encouraged the unions to reassess their stance and end their strike, following criticism from the unions regarding the Commission’s delayed response to their concerns about service conditions.

In a press release they noted that during a meeting held with the Teacher Unions on 20th January 2024, the Government Team was able to reach an agreement with them on Ten (10) out of (16) items submitted for negotiations.

The FWSC also indicated that there was the need to secure further mandate from the Ministry of Finance on the outstanding items in order to conclude negotiations with the Teachers Union, to which they agreed.

They added that an invitation was extended to the Teacher Unions on Tuesday 19th March 2024 for a meeting on Thursday 21st March 2024 at 10:00am to continue and possibly conclude the negotiations.
