Residents of Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region recently took to the streets to protest what they deemed excessive billing by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). In response to the outcry, ECG has clarified that the incidents of over-billing were primarily caused by expired meters and the recent tariff increases. This explanation comes after the community expressed outrage and frustration over the perceived unfair billing practices.
The Electricity Company of Ghana’s appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on Monday August 12 prompted the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to emphasize the need for urgent action on the persistent billing problems plaguing her constituents.
ECG Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, offered a possible explanation for the billing issues, suggesting that the problem may be attributed to the use of expired meters, in response to the concerns raised by the MP and residents of Ketu South.
