Head coach of Ghana’s national boxing team, the Black Bombers, Mr. Ofori Asare, has issued a heartfelt apology to the people of Ghana for the team’s disappointing performance in the recent qualifiers in Senegal for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Ghana had sent a squad of 12 promising boxers to Dakar with high hopes of securing coveted positions in the upcoming Olympics. However, the journey proved to be a challenging one, as all 12 boxers faced defeat in their respective matches, leaving the nation disheartened.
Coach Ofori Asare in an exclusive interview with HappySports, acknowledged the team’s shortcomings and attributed their struggles to a lack of adequate exposure before the crucial qualifiers. He stated, “We are sorry we couldn’t qualify. The boxers didn’t have enough exposure before the qualifiers, and it affected us. Two weeks of camping wasn’t enough for the team, and next time, we will be preparing more adequately.”
Despite this setback, there is a glimmer of hope for the Black Bombers, as they will have another chance to contend for Olympic qualification in a series of bouts scheduled for November.
