Ex-GHALCA president J.Y Appiah blames Sports Minister for Black Stars’ woes

Ghana 1-2 Niger: Black Stars end 2025 AFCON qualifiers without a win

Former president of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), J.Y Appiah has blamed the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif for the Black Stars bad performances in recent years.

According to J.Y Appiah, he blames Mustapha Ussif because as the Minister of Sports who has oversight responsibility on the Black Stars, he has allowed the appointment of underqualified coaches.

He argued that if the coaches hired for the Black Stars in the last five years are not up to the standard required for the Black Stars, then the Minister should be blamed because he is the one who pays the salaries and not the Ghana Football Association.

“I blame the Sports Minister for the Black Stars’ woes as he oversees the appointment of underqualified coaches for our national teams”

J.Y Appiah’s comments come on the back of Ghana’s disappointing campaign in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars are currently on the brick of disqualification and will have to win their final two games while Sudan fails to pick a point in their final two games against Angola and Niger for Ghana to be able to qualify.
