Retired Radiographer and renowned breast cancer advocate, Grace Animwaa, has called on every Ghanaian woman to prioritize the health of their breast.
According to her, despite the continuous awareness of the dangers of the deadly disease, she believes that some women barely regard it as highly relevant.
Speaking at the Breast Cancer Symposium organized by the Danquah Institute, Madam Grace Animwaa reiterated the significance of breast screening to women especially as she labelled the cancerous disease as evil.
“We need to call out every woman to know her breast status because cancer is real and being a woman puts you in a risk group. Let’s avail ourselves to get our breast screened and checked. Know your breast status because breast cancer is no respectable of persons. It is evil just as COVID-19. The youngest person at our facility is a 13 year old. If a 13 year old can suffer breast cancer, then who are you, a 35 or 45 year old? If you’re a woman be up and doing,” she cautioned.
The breast cancer advocate continued, “Woman, check your breast, have your baseline mammogram. They say life begins at 40 but the real meaning is problems start from 40. So we want every woman to have a baseline mammogram at age 40. Some people get theirs early enough but having it at age 40 is better than none. If I ask do you know your breast? How is your breast can you be able to give me the correct answer? Have time for yourself if not you’ll die like fowl. This is not like Malaria that will give you headache or a bitter taste.”
The Breast Cancer Symposium organized on Thursday, October 27, 2022, by the Dankwah Institute under the theme, “Breast Cancer Knowledge, Attitudes and Screening Practices In Ghana”, in partnership with the Office of the Women’s Commission, Senior Staff of the University of Cape Coast.
