The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has stated that Ghana’s democracy is under threat. He made this statement during today’s “Enough is Enough” protest by the NDC to express their displeasure about the EC’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter’s register.
Speaking to supporters, members and stakeholders of the party at Obra Spot at Circle, he expressed the need for everyone to be actively involved in the protest. “We must actively be participants of the democracy of this country. We want nothing but transparent elections that will guarantee our rights to choose our leaders.”
He explained that without the right of self determination democracy is hollow and every democracy at one point in time must be tested. “Ghana’s democracy is under serious threat now and we want to prevail we shall overcome. Every democracy has the risk of producing a tyrant but what tests the resilience of that democracy” he asked.
According to him, the protest is not to promote violence but rather to ensure peace in the country and also peaceful and transparent elections.
