By: Akua Sika, host of Happy Evening Drive
As a young radio presenter and social media influencer, I, Akua Sika, have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of digital technologies in shaping our world. This World Youth Day, I want to highlight the critical role of youth in leveraging digital pathways for sustainable development.
Growing up in Kumasi, I experienced a sweet and tough childhood that taught me resilience and hard work. My passion for radio and TV presentation led me to pursue a career in media, and today, I’m proud to host the “Happy Evening Drive” show on Happy 98.9 FM and the YouTube personality profile show “AYEEKO”.
Through my work, I’ve had the privilege of interviewing numerous young Ghanaians who are making waves in various fields. From content creators, musicians and influencers like Jeffrey Nortey, Shatta Michy, Keche Global, Joe Frazier, Ahoufe Patricia, EL, and actresses like Victoria Lebene etc, and I’ve seen the impact of digital content creation on their lives.
One thing that stands out is that Ghanaian talents are beginning to see the value of the internet and are leveraging it to reach a wider audience, build their brands, and create sustainable businesses. The likes of Kojo Sheldon, Wode Maya, Demand & Supply, Asantewaa etc are using social media, blogs, and YouTube channels to showcase their talents, share their stories, and connect with others.
This year’s Youth Day theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”, is particularly relevant to me. I believe that by empowering young people with digital skills and tools, we can unlock their potential and create a brighter future for all.
As we celebrate Youth Day, I want to emphasize the importance of supporting young people’s digital innovations, creativity, and passion for driving change. Let us work together to create a world where youth are equipped with the digital skills and tools they need to succeed.
Happy Youth Day!
