
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Kelvin Aboagye, the General Manager of Elmina Sharks, for allegedly attacking a referee during a Division One League match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks on February 16, 2025.
The incident occurred at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina, Central Region, at the end of the match. Aboagye, along with other individuals, reportedly assaulted the referee and some supporters.
According to the police, the suspect is currently in custody, assisting with investigations. Authorities have launched efforts to apprehend others involved in the attack to ensure they face justice.
This latest act of violence raises fresh concerns about the safety of match officials in Ghanaian football.
