Elmina Sharks coach Yaw Acheampong has commended his players for the fight they put in to secure a 2-2 draw against Ebusua Dwarfs in the opening fixture of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Elmina Sharks were hit with the coronavirus as 10 players had contracted the deadly flu ruling them out of the game against Ebusua Dwarfs in the derby.
The Elmina-based team surrounded their 2-1 lead in the second half as Dwarfs came from behind kind courtesy a free kick from goalkeeper Issah Razak to see the two sides share the spoils after regulation time.
Speaking in an interview on Happy Sports with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9FM, Yaw Acheampong disclosed that they were disappointed to have thrown away that 2-1 lead.
“I was disappointed with the result. We were trying to maintain the result until the goalkeeper came with the equalizer”.
“I want to commend my players because of the COVID-19 that had affected the team. The players did very well.
“People should watch out for Elmina Sharks this season. We always tell the players to make good use of their time and that is enough motivation for the players. Psychologically its working”, he added.
Elmina Sharks host Liberty Professionals at the Nduom Sports Stadium in their first home game of the season.
