Election 2024: No need for Supreme Court because I'll win - Mahama vows "Election Vigilance"

John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has stated that he is confident he would win the elections in December and that there is no need to appeal the results at the Supreme Court.

Speaking to a fired-up crowd in Dzodze, Volta Region, Mahama cast aside doubts about future legal battles, opting instead for a message of proactive vigilance and party unity. “We’re not wasting time on courts,” he said, “This election will be won in the trenches, at every polling station and collation center!”

His remarks, overflowing with newly discovered resolution, spoke to a fundamental desire for decisive action. Hurt by previous elections, Mahama called on the NDC to become a vigilant watchdog over the December elections.

“We’ll stand guard from the first vote cast to the last ballot counted. This time, victory won’t slip through our fingers!”

This shift in strategy marks a departure from the NDC’s previous reliance on legal challenges. Mahama’s emphasis on “election vigilance” suggests a meticulous plan to monitor every stage of the electoral process, leaving no room for manipulation or irregularities.

However, under all of the hot rhetoric, political practicality is still there in the background. Critics of Mahama point to his own contest of Nana Akufo-Addo’s 2016 election as proof of his inconsistent nature. They believe proactive monitoring is really a cover for a possible post-election legal battle.

For the time being, though, Mahama’s message speaks to an audience that is tired and longs for stability and openness. His inspiring appeal for unanimity may prove to be a powerful tool against his polarised opponents.

The months leading to December promise to be a roller coaster ride, with Mahama’s “election vigilance” campaign forming a central plotline.

Whether his audacious strategy translates into victory remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the NDC is no longer playing defense. They are coming in swinging, vowing to secure their future at the ballot box, not in the courtroom.
