The National Media Commission (NMC) is throwing its weight behind the newly formed Ghana Fact-Checking Coalition, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at tackling the looming threats of misinformation and disinformation to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic progress.
In a statement issued on November 10, NMC’s Executive Secretary, George Sarpong emphasized that this coalition is exactly what Ghana needs to safeguard its information space, especially with elections just around the corner. He congratulated the coalition’s members, including Media Foundation for West Africa, Dubawa, and FactSpace West Africa, on this crucial step.
He highlighted that the Ghana Fact-Checking Coalition brings together civil society organizations dedicated to upholding information integrity. By working together, they aim to create a safer, more reliable information environment for all Ghanaians. This move is a significant boost to Ghana’s efforts to combat fake news and promote fact-based discourse.
