Election 2024: Ghanaians will vote against NPP over economic hardship - Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that Ghanaians will vote in this year’s election based on the economic hardships caused by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He criticized the NPP administration for failing to deliver on many of its promises, highlighting the significant job losses under its tenure. He also accused the government of neglecting its duty to protect the environment, alleging that illegal mining activities (galamsey) have destroyed water bodies due to the personal interests of party members.

He referred to a leaked audio recording in which party members allegedly admitted that stopping galamsey was not an option because the party needed the funds it generates. He further accused the government of endangering Ghanaians by contaminating water bodies and providing substandard food to Senior High School students.

Ablakwa dismissed the NPP’s claims of economic recovery, arguing that the exchange rate remains unstable and the cedi has depreciated by 29% in recent days. He lamented that the hardships experienced by Ghanaians will likely influence them to vote against the NPP in the upcoming elections.
