The Director Responsible for Training at the Electoral Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has called on the media to thoroughly cross-check their information before publishing to ensure accurate and credible reporting.
He stressed that the role of the media in informing and educating the public is crucial, particularly during this critical election period, where misinformation can have consequences.
Speaking at EC’s third media engagement today 7th December 2024, Dr. Quaicoe appreciated the strong relationship between the Electoral Commission and the media, noting the Commission’s commitment to keeping journalists updated on developments. He emphasized that keeping the media well-informed is essential to support their efforts in educating the public on electoral issues.
He acknowledged delay in starting the session as planned, explaining that the Commission needed to verify key facts before proceeding. This, he said, underscores the importance of accuracy in all forms of communication to maintain public trust and confidence.
He reported an impressive voter participation in the elections stating that all polling stations recording more than 50% turnout by 2 p.m.
