The Electoral Commission’s Deputy Director of Research, Fred Tetteh has reiterated the Commission’s quest for transparent elections. He said the commission has ensured all defected ballot papers are burned in the presence of the media, police and political party agents.
Speaking to the media at the dumping site where the defective ballot papers for Ahafo and Volta Region were burnt, Mr. Tetteh stated that, the act by the electoral commission was not to the advantage of any political party.
‘’What we have done here was not meant to the advantage or disadvantage of any political parties’’.
He mentioned that, the total defected ballot materials for Ahafo region were eighty- eight (88) materials, with sixty- seven (67) bags for presidential and twenty- one (21) bags for the parliamentary, whilst that of the Presidential for Volta Region were one hundred and eighty four (184) and sixty –six (66) bags for parliamentary.
‘’Materials that were burnt, a total of 184 presidential ballot paper bags for volta region, presidential for Ahafo Region, 67 bags and that of parliamentary, Ahafo 21 bags and Volta 66 bags’’.
The burning of the defective ballot papers which were detected by the electoral commission’s team stationed at Volta and Ahafo regions due to serialization errors were done in the presence of all political party agents, the media, security personnel and the election commission.
