The Director of Electoral Services, at the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mr. Benjamin Bannor-Bioh has announced that by 5:00 PM, about 95% of polling stations across the country had successfully closed polls, signaling a largely efficient and peaceful voting process.
He attributed the smooth operation to effective resource management and strategic planning, which helped minimize congestion and reduce processing times at polling stations.
Despite the overall success, the day was marred by an isolated incident of violence that unfortunately resulted in the loss of one life. Mr. Bannor-Bioh expressed regret over this occurrence, emphasizing that such acts should not overshadow the peaceful nature of the electoral process. However, he stressed that this unfortunate act did not occur due to an action or inaction on the part of the Electoral Commission.
He highlighted the professionalism of electoral staff, whose dedication and adherence to high standards contributed significantly to the success of the exercise. The media was also commended for responsible reporting and for ensuring accurate information reached the public.
He reminded all stakeholders to rely only on official channels for election updates, reinforcing the commission’s commitment to transparency and accuracy.
