Ranking Member on Education Committee in Parliament, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, has expressed concern over the government’s failure to prioritize the timely release of funds for the education sector.
According to him, the Education Committee had earlier approved a budget presented to Parliament, covering programs, activities, and both recurrent and capital expenditures for the education ministry. However, delays in the disbursement of these funds have disrupted operations within the sector.
He noted that essential activities such as the release of examination results and preparations for the reopening of senior high schools have been adversely affected due to the lack of funds. Heads of senior high schools have also warned that schools may not reopen if the financial challenges persist.
He accused the government of neglecting education by channeling funds to other areas at the expense of essential education programs. He emphasized the urgent need for the government to address the situation to prevent further disruptions.
