Economist and Management Consultant, Evans Nunoo has advised that focusing on policies that enhance agriculture and industry is the sole solution for Ghana to alleviate food inflation within the country.

Latest data from the Ghana Statistical Service indicates that inflation for June has dropped to 22.8%. It revealed that per the Consumer Price Index data released, food and non-food inflation stood at 24.0 percent and 21.6 percent respectively.

Government Statistician Prof Samuel Kobina Anim made this announcement at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, highlighting a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from May’s inflation rate of 23.1 %.

However, speaking to Happyghana.com on the back of latest data, Economist and Management Consultant, Evans Nunoo, said inflation basically depends on people’s wants and what is available.

He said food inflation has been a problem for a long time indicating that the number of food people want to have isn’t available to them making demand exceed supply.

He said to mitigate this the agriculture sector must be given serious attention because food inflation has been a problem. He said Ghana should have concrete policies that will boost agriculture and industry as well. He said if the nation is able to add value to food produce there won’t be food inflation problems all through the year. He added that government should also work on what is imported.
