The Technical Committee on Private Sector Participation (PSP) in power distribution has submitted its recommendations to Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor, outlining three key models to improve the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The proposed models include: Entity Concession, Multiple Lease and Service Franchise.
According to the Committee Chairman Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, these recommendations aim to enhance efficiency and service delivery in Ghana’s energy sector.
Explaining the options available, Mr Amissah- Arthur stated that, “three main options that we focused on is what we call Entity Concession where the whole distribution business will be given out to a private concession as a whole”.
“Then there is what we call the Mulitiple Lease in which case, the distribution across the country will be divided into several parts and each of them awarded separately. And then we have the Service Franchise in which case the private sector will operate the low voltage network from the distribution transformer to deliver services to homes and businesses”.
