According to Awudu Mahama, the Editor of the Custodian Newspaper, the Electoral Commission (EC) is fully prepared for this year’s election irrespective of mistakes they made with the voter registration exercise.

He said this on the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun on Happy 98.9 FM. He said, “The EC will correct all mistakes before the election and assured, the election will be flawless and will represent the people’s decision”.

The Editor made this statement in relation to the 30,000 names that were not included in the voter register during its exhibition on the basis of multiple registrations with some being on the exception list.

Comparing this year’s mistakes to that of previous years specifically 2012, he mentioned,” mistakes recorded during the 2012 registration exercise were more than this year's. We recorded over 200,000 mistakes but the corrections were all made before the elections”.

He cited some major and far more serious mistakes in 2012 registration exercise than in this year. “Some names and faces were missing from the register with flowers replacing some of these faces which was a terrible mistake. But this year nothing of that sort has been seen or heard and I believe the EC when they say they’re 95% ready for the elections”.

Moving on, he applauded the EC for their good works and efforts put into the upcoming elections, he said, ”The transparency shown by the EC has never been seen in the history of this country. With every registration process, they have given us figures and kept us updated and this has helped cut down the number of mistakes compared to previous years drastically”.

Also with the help of the exhibition he reiterated, all mistakes have been rectified and corrected.

He also added that the EC is currently printing and distributing pink sheets and has also acquired over 74,000 Biometric Verification Device (BVD) machines to help with the elections. “So everything is ready for the elections”, he declared.
