The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the date for the special voting exercise for the Eastern and Western regions to Thursday December 5, 2024.
The rescheduling is due to the recall of some parliamentary and presidential ballot papers which have been defaced.
The Electoral Commission in an emergency IPAC meeting on Sunday December 1, 2024, mentioned that, the recall has become necessary after National Security informed the commission of a single defaced paper.
The defaced paper was earmarked for destruction but unfortunately found its way out of Checkpoint Printing Limited Printing House which the commission has been working with since 1992.
According to the EC, the reprinting has started and would be done by Dark Press and Innolink.
The commission noted that, the security features of ballots for the two regions would be enhanced to differentiate them from the ones that have gone out.
The Commission said the total recall is to ensure the integrity of the election.
