EC announces ballot printing statistics ahead of 2024 general elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has published the statistics to guide the printing of ballots for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In determining the ballot requirements, the Commission considered the total number of voters listed in the 2024 provisional voters register (PVR) with an additional two percent margin to account for contingencies.

The EC explained that while it encourages full voter turnout, it acknowledges that not all registered voters will cast their ballots on election day. Therefore, the two percent increase aims to balance between preventing shortfalls and minimizing wastage.

According to the Commission, the practice of adding a percentage margin to the total registered voters has been standard since 1992. This method has proven effective over the years in ensuring smooth electoral processes.

A statement signed by the Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, on Monday, October 14, assured the public of the Commission’s preparedness to deliver on its mandate, urging voters to trust the EC throughout the election process.
