Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called for a paradigm shift in defining democracy.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the prestigious Munich Security Conference, she shared insights with representatives from three continents, Christopher Coons a Senator from Delaware, Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska a member of Parliament from Poland and Zin Mar Aung who is in Exile from Myanmar.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized that restoring faith in democratic governance is crucial to prevent citizens from seeking alternative systems, She argued that equity is essential for achieving justice.
“More established democracies must understand that unless there is equity amongst different democratic states, the justice we seek for our people will continue to elude us. This can be realised tangibly by a change in unfair international trade agreements and practices that keep less developed and younger democracies at a constant disadvantage,” she stated.
She called for a reevaluation of international trade agreements that disproportionately disadvantage less developed democracies, asserting that tangible changes in these practices are necessary for fostering a fairer global landscape.
