The Executive Director of the National Cathedral project, Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah has addressed misconceptions surrounding the project’s objectives. He emphasized that the cathedral aims to promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and generate revenue. The project’s economic model is expected to generate revenue streams from multi-purpose rental spaces, a banquet hall, conference center, biblical restaurant, café, shops, theaters, Bible Museum of Africa and Biblical Gardens of Africa.
Despite these intentions, the government’s efforts to facilitate construction have faced opposition. Critics question the appropriateness of government involvement and express concerns about financial transparency. Dr. Opoku-Mensah has clarified that the National Cathedral is a state-owned non-profit organization, with any income generated to be reinvested in promoting its non-profit activities.
He highlighted that the cathedral’s design and features are also noteworthy. It will have an auditorium seating 5,000 people, chapels and a baptistery. The project incorporates sustainable construction methods, with a steel structure to ensure timely completion.
Dr. Opoku-Mensah’s efforts to educate the public about the project’s benefits and address concerns were reinforced during a symposium with TD Jakes’ divinity school. He highlighted the cathedral’s potential positive impact on the community and nation.
