The New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans to launch a Taxi Ride-Hailing App by the end of October to support Ghanaian taxi drivers.

Speaking during his evening encounter with the Arts and Tourism fraternity at Alisa Hotel, Accra on Wednesday October 16, 2024, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged concerns raised by traditional taxi drivers during their meeting. They complained about online operators like Bolt, Uber and Yango dominating the market, leaving them struggling to compete.

In response, Dr. Bawumia promised to create a digital platform for local taxi drivers. The upcoming app aims to increase drivers’ earnings, contrasting with existing online services charging commissions as high as 28%.

The app, designed specifically for local taxi drivers will enhance their work and promote transportation. He emphasized its benefits, including improved income and fair competition. By launching this app, he aims to safeguard Ghanaian taxi drivers’ interests and foster a thriving transportation sector.
