Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed plans to build a tomato factory at Akomadan in the Offinso North constituency of the Ashanti Region as part of his commitment to establish processing facilities in all districts with agricultural advantages.
Speaking during the second day of his tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the critical role of agriculture in driving Ghana’s development. He outlined his vision to transform the sector through initiatives aimed at empowering local farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity.
As part of his plan, Dr. Bawumia aims to create District Agricultural Mechanization Centers, which would be equipped with tools and machinery to support farming activities. These centers, he said would function similarly to the government’s road improvement program, which has provided districts with road equipment to strengthen their infrastructure networks. By establishing these mechanization centers, Dr. Bawumia envisions offering farmers access to the resources they need to improve efficiency and productivity across various agricultural activities.
He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing high energy costs by expanding solar power usage as a means to reduce electricity tariffs nationwide. This renewable energy initiative, he explained, would make electricity more affordable and sustainable for households and businesses.
