The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Manifesto Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Ekua Amoakoah, has highlighted the significant investments made by the NPP government in the health sector, emphasizing that the party remains committed to the well-being of Ghanaians.
Speaking on the party’s achievements, Dr. Amoakoah credited former President John Agyekum Kufuor with the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at improving healthcare accessibility. She criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly mismanaging NHIS during their tenure, claiming it led to widespread dissatisfaction and inefficiency.
According to Dr. Amoakoah, during the NDC’s administration, over two million Ghanaians abandoned their NHIS cards due to limited benefits and stagnant progress. She also dismissed claims by former President John Mahama that he introduced NHIS, asserting that the scheme was initiated under the NPP.
Dr. Amoakoah praised the current NPP government for revitalizing the NHIS and expanding its scope to include services such as free kidney dialysis and sickle cell treatment. She reiterated the party’s dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery and addressing the needs of Ghanaians.
