Dozens of health workers in Turkey on trail over infant deaths

Protests have erupted across Turkey as 47 healthcare workers face trial, accused of subjecting newborns to improper medical treatments in private hospitals.

Reports allege that these treatments, described as acts of mutilation, were carried out by doctors and nurses to fraudulently claim payments from the country’s social security system. Investigations have revealed that at least 10 newborns died, marking this as one of Turkey’s most significant healthcare scandals in recent years.

Grieving parents, who initially believed their babies had died of natural causes, have expressed outrage, calling the actions of the healthcare workers cruel and inhumane.

As part of the investigation, authorities have shut down nine private hospitals and identified 19 institutions as being linked to the malpractice.
