At least 42 people have been confirmed dead along with many others displaced following a devastating dam burst in Central Kenya’s Mai Mahu area in Kenya’s Nakuru County.
Kenyan media indicate that the dam burst which occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 29, 2024, increases the death toll in the said region, recording a number of deaths from heavy rains and flooding since last month.
Earlier on Monday, the Kenya Red Cross confirmed that several people had been rushed to health facilities in Mai Mahu due to flash flooding.
The damaged caused by the dam burst was captured by Kenyan media, Kenya Red Cross and the highway authorities, showing scenes of the flood’s aftermath. The images of broken trees and footage of capsized cars and structures were posted by the respective authorities.
Kenyan government have shown the latest death tolls from heavy rains and flooding since last month to more than 100. Figures proved that 76 people had been killed and more than 131,000 displaced as of Saturday.
