Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has cautioned the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama not to allow himself to be used for propaganda.
According to the Efutu MP, the position of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana is sensitive to the stabilization of the economy and thus the person who occupies the office must only act in the interest of the country.
Afenyo-Markin cautioned Dr. Johnson Asiama not to repeat the mistakes of past Governors by not allowing himself to be used as a tool for political football.
“I remember the President raised concerns about poor supervision in the banking sector by BoG and Dr. Johnson Asiama at the time was the Deputy Governor. I’m happy he is here but I want to tell him that he shouldn’t make himself a tool for political football.”
“The role that the Governor of the Central Bank plays is critical to the development of the economy and he must not play politics with it else we will also do politics with it,” Afenyo-Markin said on the floor of Parliament as monitored by happyghana.com
Dr. Johnson Asiama was in Parliament to make a presentation on the total cost of the new headquarters of the Central Bank constructed by the previous administration.
