Don’t ignore local players for World Cup- Kim Grant

Former Ghana international, Kim Grant, has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) not to sideline home-based players ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

The GFA has been gallivanting overseas to convince Ghanaian players of foreign descent to switch nationality and play for the Black Stars ahead of the Mundial in November.

A week ago the GFA announced six players had switched nationality to play for the Black Stars

The playerss: Inaki Williams (Atletico Bilbao), Tariq Lamptey (Brighton), Ransford Yeboah (Hamburg), Stephen Ambrosius (Hamburg), Patrick Pfeiffer have agreed to play for the four-time Africa Champions.

According to the former Hearts of Oak coach, their availability will make the team stronger but also the GFA must also ensure home-based players get the opportunity.

“The question going forward is will they be available for the national team after the World Cup. Yes they will bring quality to the national team but also it’s about the local players as well. Don’t neglect them. You need hungry and determined players to grow and come through the long-term future of the national teams and also the development of football itself”, he said in an interview on Happy FM.
