Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko- Computer has strongly condemned the Electoral Commission’s decision to re-run an outstanding polling station in the Dome- Kwabenya constituency following intense debates and controversy surrounding the results.
According to him, the NDC will not accept a re-run as their candidate Elikplim Akurugu has won the elections.
Speaking in an interview with the media after the EC’s announcement of a re-run on Saturday December 28, 2024, Dr. Tanko- computer called out the EC for the announcement, saying the EC has arithmetic issues because, according to him, there were errors in their calculations.
“These people have issues with arithmetic, and so we will do the calculation for them. They should hold their horses because Elikplim has won the election, and we will not accept their so- called rerun”.
He further mentioned that, “there was a difference of 1154 votes, and so if today we are having a problem with one polling station, that polling station should be taken out.”
“ The voter population for that polling station is 689, so when you deduct 689 from 1154, your guess is as good as mine”, he added
The EC’s decision to re-run the elections for an outstanding polling station, Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station was because of the absence of its pink sheet.
In an emergency IPAC meeting On Saturday December 28, 2024, the EC’s Director of Training, Dr. Serebour Quaicoo mentioned that, the returning officers for the constituency reported that only 368 polling stations had been successfully collated, remaining three (3) outstanding.
“The commission rejected one of them outrightly on the stance that it was declared on a wrong statement of poll because they used training sheets, which is not the one that they should use. So the commission has rejected one, so we decided to come and add the two and see what happens”.
