The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has stated that, the newly launched Digital Economy Policy will contribute meaningfully to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through the application of digital technologies.
‘’ Through the application of digital technologies we are confident we will see significant progress in areas such as job creation, entrepreneurship, and public service delivery, by unlocking value in these sectors, we will also ensure that our digital economy will contribute meaningful to our GDP Growth.’’
According to her, the Digital Economy Policy will ensure equal access to broadband internet connectivity throughout the country.
‘’We have implemented policies to ensure every telecommunication user has equal access to private and public digital services regardless of their service provider. Even though many digital initiatives have been implemented ahead of the launch of this policy, the policy will help consolidate it and chart the course for the future’’.
She added that, ‘’This digital economy policy and strategy is therefore not just timely but essential in addressing the new realities of the digital transformation we are pursuing. It aims to set a clear direction for harnessing digital technologies and platforms to drive economic growth, create sustainable jobs and improve service delivery to our citizens’’.
