Democracy Hub leader Oliver Barker-Vormawor arrested

Leader of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a protests organized by the group in Accra.

The protests which resulted in roadblocks and significant traffic disruptions at key intersections, heightened tensions between protesters and law enforcement. Barker-Vormawor, a key figure in the movement, was taken into custody after the police launched a manhunt for him.

Prior to his arrest, 42 individuals were detained during Sunday’s protest and are expected to face charges in court.

He had initially evaded arrest, prompting the police search that culminated in his capture.

A police statement indicated that Barker-Vormawor is being held on charges of inciting public disorder and leading the blockade of major roads. Authorities stated that the actions of the protesters, under his leadership, caused significant inconvenience to commuters and disrupted the city’s daily operations.
