Former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has claimed that the perceived rivalry between himself and Andre Ayew was fueled by individuals with “personal interests.”
Speculations about tension between the two players emerged during their time with the Black Stars, with reports suggesting they had a strained relationship. The situation appeared to worsen when Ayew assumed the Black Stars captaincy before Gyan officially retired, a decision widely seen as a source of friction.
However, Gyan dismissed these claims, attributing the so-called rivalry to external influences that he believes “brainwashed” Ayew.
“Andre is a good person. He genuinely cares for me, but he has been brainwashed because it benefits certain people. That’s what created the so-called rivalry. I am not in competition with anyone,” Gyan said during an Instagram live session on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The former captain touched on this topic and other issues during his candid remarks on the social media platform.
