Black Stars forward, Joseph Paintsil, says captain Andre Ayew apologized to him after that goal-bound incident in the game against Gabon at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Paintsil was in a good position to score for the Black Stars in the game against the Panthers but was denied a pass by captain Andre Dede Ayew.
Ghana had taken the lead in the game through Andre Ayew before Gabon equalized in the closing minutes of the game, to see the two teams share spoils.
Some Ghanaian football fans lambasted Andre Ayew for denying the young Ghanaian striker a chance to score in the game.
The Genk midfielder in an exclusive interview on Happy Sports disclosed that Andre Ayew after watching a replay of the incident apologized to him.
“I wont say I was disappointed. On the field you have to make a decision in a split second. I feel he didn’t see at the time but after the game he apologized to me”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware.
Paintsil added playing his first AFCON with the Black Stars was very special to him.
“It was my first time playing for the Black Stars at the 2021 AFCON. I was happy representing Mother Ghana at such a big tournament. If we were more than 10 players we would have conquered Comoros. We were just unlucky at that tournament”.
