Ghana has been hit with very sad unfortunate deaths of some of our entertainers this year 2018.
Not to remind all of us especially family and friends of the passing of their loved ones, below is a list of the deaths recorded in the entertainment industry this year.
Ebony Reigns
Born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng and affably known as Nana Hemaa by close relatives, Ebony was born on February 16, 1997, to Nana Poku Kawarteng and Beatrice Oppong Marthin. She was a dancehall and hiplife artiste discovered by musician and entrepreneur Bullet from Ruff n Smooth and was signed to his Ruff Town record label and Midas Touch Inc.
She came out with her first single ‘Dancefloor in December 2016, before her demise, she was arguably the most popular musician in Ghana. Ebony Reigns was killed instantly in a traffic collision on 8 February 2018 whilst returning from Sunyani to Accra after a visit to her mother. Her assistant and longtime friend Franklina Yaa Nkansah Kuri and soldier Atsu Vondee were also killed in the fatal accident. She died eight days before her 21st birthday.
Her final funeral rites were held at the forecourt of the state house, Accra and she was buried at Osu cemetery on Saturday March 24, 2018. Even after her death, she won the artiste of the year award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in April, 2018.
Jewel Ackah
Veteran musician Jewel Ackah passed away on Friday, April 27.
He was known to have been battling stroke and other sicknesses for about a decade.
The sensational musician was a known supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Several personalities and groups, including an NDC group and Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of Zylofon Media, had made donations for the veteran musician’s upkeep and medical care.
Jewel Ackah is known for composing the anthem of the NDC.
He died at age 73.
Super OD
Veteran actor Asonaba Kwaku Darko, popularly known as Super OD, passed away on Tuesday, February 13 at the Swedru Government Hospital in the Central Region.
The 84-year-old veteran actor had been out of the public’s eye for some time due to his illness and had been living in Agona Swedru. Super OD, who started acting in the 1970s, gained national prominence in the 1990s for roles in popular series, Akan Drama on Ghana Television.
He was part of the Oppong Drama Group which later became known as Osofo Dadzie Group.
CK Mann
Veteran highlife musician Charles Kofi Amankwa Mann, best known on stage as C. K. Mann, passed away 7 am on Tuesday, March 20 at the Ghapoha Hospital in the Western Region.
He was 83 years. C.K. Mann had been battling an unclosed illness for three years and his condition was said to have gotten worse last week.
Kuntu Blankson
Sixty-three-year-old veteran actor Kuntu Blankson has allegedly committed suicide Thursday morning July 12 at his Brafoyaw residence near Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Mr. Blankson who featured in the popular Akan Drama series in the late 1990s was found hanging on a rope at his kitchen.
According to family sources, he woke up at dawn and was thought to be embarking on his usual jogging exercises, only for him to be found dead wearing the tracksuit he wears for his jogging exercises.
A wife and three children survive him.
Mac Jordan Amartey
Legendary actor, Mac Jordan Amartey died on Thursday July 5
The veteran actor who had been unwell for some time died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Thursday evening.
His family had taken him to the hospital after struggling to get him to eat solid food. He had since been on admission until his death. Mac Jordan is known greatly for the popular “Idikoko” TV series. He was also known for numerous TV Theatre productions and Ghanaian films. The legendary actor is also known for his tiff with actress Grace Nortey in almost all the movies the two starred in.
He contributed greatly to the movie industry in Ghana.
Abass Nurudeen
Kumawood actor Nurudeen Abass, popularly known among his colleagues as Blinkz was stabbed to death around 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Akurem, a suburb between Aboabo and Sawaaba in Kumasi.
Blinkz, who worked with the Acheamfour Terminal, a transport company met his death when he visited his master’s house.
